Discover the Foissac cave
Located 1.5 km from Foissac on a limestone plateau overlooking the Lot Valley, this prehistoric cave was still inhabited nearly 5,000 years ago.
Its entrance is on the edge of the Causses du Quercy. It is the only decorated cave in Aveyron.

The emotion is palpable when you enter this magnificent cave once inhabited and developed by prehistoric men.
After their passage, the entrance will be blocked by scree before being discovered in 1965 by speleologists.
They noticed many remains and paintings and engravings from the Upper Paleolithic.
Today the site is developed for tourists and has been listed as a historical monument since 1978.
You can admire human footprints, animal bones (mammoths, reindeer and rhinoceroses), pottery and burials.
During the visit of approximately 1 hour, mineralogy, geology and archaeology will no longer hold any secrets for you.
After a descent of about ten meters into the basement, travel nearly 400 meters underground under calcite bubbles ranging from white to ochre hues along a river.
Admire the works of art sculpted by nature.
The entire visit then heads towards the entrance that has been blocked for more than 5,000 years.
Bring warm clothes, because the temperature in the cave is around 12 degrees.
A few steps from the cave, discover the museum which houses a large collection of archaeological objects recovered during the excavations. Most are made of bone, wood or terracotta.
You will also find some souvenirs in the adjoining shop.
